From First Design to Final Fitting
A process built entirely around you.
For many, the idea of going bespoke feels unfamiliar—sometimes even intimidating.
What actually happens?
How long does it take?
And what makes it different from simply buying a suit off the rack?
Here’s what you can expect from start to finish.
The Bespoke Experience - The Design
This is where everything begins.
You’ll sit down one-on-one with your designer to discuss:
- Occasion (wedding, business, everyday wear)
- Style preferences
- Fabric selection
- Custom details (lapels, linings, buttons, pockets)
No prior knowledge is needed—this is a guided experience.
What matters most here:
We’re not just designing a suit. We’re designing how you want to show up.
Getting the perfect fit
This goes far beyond a quick tape measure session.
A Limatus process considers:
- Posture
- Shoulder slope
- Balance and stance
- Movement
From there, a custom pattern is created from scratch—not adjusted from a template.
Why this matters:
This is what separates Limatus from made-to-measure. The garment is built specifically for your body, not adapted to it.
The
Limatus
Way
Did you know there are an average of 37 parts to one standard suit jacket?
STARTING THE PROCESS
After meeting with your Limatus designer, we start the pattern making process. We combine measurements, posture, and preference to create a pattern made just for you.
During this time, we also place an order for your selected fabric. We work with mills all over the world. Depending on the fabric mill, this can take anywhere from 4-14 days to reach our tailors.
That fabric arrives and the initial pattern is created. Our master tailors review the same measurements, posture, and selected fit style. Once the pattern is approved, it’s linked with your fabric and sent to the fabric cutting team.
CUTTING & SEWING
Each tailor has been trained by our master tailors to ensure the best quality and consistency in each garment.
We are in direct communication every single day with the tailors crafting your one-of-a-kind items.
Having a proficient tailoring team ensures a high quality product each time, every time.
From beginning to end, it takes an average of 6-9 days to go through the construction process. This includes multiple hand stitching elements like the canvassing placed from shoulder line through the lapels and front panel of your jacket. Hand stitching these elements are important to ensure that your canvassing is able to mold to your body over time.
QUALITY CONTROL
Once your garment is completed, it is rechecked to every detail and measurements provided in the initial pattern and design.
If a garment fails for even the small discrepancy, it is sent back to the tailors for review and adjustment.
Once the garment passes inspection, it is shipped to our showroom.
Shipping from our tailors to our showroom can take up to 5-10 business days.
It's now time for your fitting.
The Fitting
Once your garment is constructed, you’ll come in for your first fitting.
At this stage, we evaluate:
- Fit and balance
- Sleeve and trouser length
- Jacket structure and drape
We’ll make any final adjustments to ensure everything sits exactly as it should.
Nothing is rushed.
Precision takes intention.
Optional Test Suiting for Precision Fit
In some cases, we recommend beginning with a test garment before moving into final production.
For first-time clients exploring bespoke:
A test suit is made from sample fabric and offers the opportunity to experience the level of fit and craftsmanship we can achieve before committing to a larger investment. It’s an excellent option for those who want to understand the value of bespoke firsthand. $150
For wardrobe-building clients:
When designing multiple garments, we often begin with a single test suit to perfect the pattern from the start. Once adjustments are made at the pattern level, future pieces can be produced with even greater consistency and precision.
How Long Does It Take?
A typical Limatus timeline is around 4–6 weeks, depending on the garment, level of customization and busy seasons. Expedited timelines are typically available.
We offer guidance on timing—especially for weddings or events—to ensure everything is ready when you need it. Feel free to call us and chat about your personal timeline.
Why our Process Matters
Anyone can sell a suit.
But the Limatus process is what creates:
- Confidence in fit
- Longevity in wear
- A deeper connection to what you’re wearing
It’s not just about the final product—it’s about how that product came to be.
